The Summer Solstice occurs on June 20, 21 or 22 in the Northern Hemisphere and marks the longest day and shortest night of the year.
It represents a pivotal point in the calendar, when the Northern Hemisphere is most tilted toward the sun, maximising our daylight hours. It is one of the four most powerful days of the year to direct our inner forces toward self-healing.
In Latin, Summer Solstice means "solstitium aestivum," which literally translates to "summer sun standing still."
Also known as Midsummer or Litha, the Summer Solstice is a significant time often celebrated through rituals and traditions rooted in paganism and ancient cultures.
In many early civilisations, the Summer Solstice was a time to celebrate the sun's strength and power. Bonfires were lit to boost the sun's energy and ensure a plentiful harvest, while people gathered to honour its life-giving force and their connection to the natural world.
Numerous ancient cultures aligned sacred sites with this day. For example, the head of the Sphinx at the Great Pyramids of Egypt aligns with the Summer Solstice, as does Stonehenge in the United Kingdom.
Historically, the Summer Solstice has been a time to celebrate the return of the light, encourage spiritual renewal, connect with nature, and harness the power of the sun. It is a potent time to recalibrate your energy and manifest intentions.
There is something energetically powerful and transformative about this time of year, and I feel it deeply, especially in relation to my body, self-expression, and creativity. It is an opportunity to revitalise your yoga and meditation practice, heighten awareness, and boost your prana (life force).
Come together with your communities to practice yoga, chant, dance, and meditate. Step outside into nature and tune into the universal life force. Create a sacred fire ritual, or simply light a candle to honour the sun and earth. Release what no longer serves you, channel the sun’s light, and increase your awareness. Cleanse the mind, move beyond ego, and feel your spirit soar.
This is a time of new beginnings. We say goodbye to a long, reflective period and welcome the fiery, potent energy of the sun to move us forward. The seasonal shift is a powerful opportunity for manifestation and transformation.
I love this time of year. Everything feels alive, exciting, and inspiring. The energy is expansive and it is a perfect moment to grow, flourish, and shine.

The Healing Power of Sound for Summer
The Summer Solstice marks the start of a new season, a fresh chapter and turning point. It is a time of nourishment and embodiment. Sound healing is a powerful tool for aligning with this energetic shift.
We can tune into the light frequency of the Solstice through instruments such as crystal bowls, the gong, wind chimes, seed shakers, and the voice. These vibrations remind us of our inner light, and like the sun’s nurturing energy, we too can nurture ourselves and others.
Consider integrating sound healing into your routine through chanting mantra, attending a sound bath, or listening to sounds that reflect the essence of summer.
